YOUNGSTOWN, OH | April 10, 2023 | BRL Newswire

As temperatures are warming up, so is the V-twin-powered Bagger Racing League (BRL) as it prepares to debut the 2023 Drag Specialties Battle of the Baggers, the premiere series that has captured the spotlight in American road racing. The Bagger GP class, featuring the biggest stars of American iron bar-banging, is proud to welcome a new title sponsor for the 2023 season, NAMZ Custom Cycle Products.

Jeff, you’ve been with BRL Racing since the inception of BRL. Talk about upping NAMZ’s involvement in 2023 and becoming the title sponsor of the Bagger GP class.

Like you said, we’ve been with Rob [Buydos] and BRL since the beginning. This season there was an opportunity to step up for the premier-class sponsorship and we thought it was a great fit for NAMZ. It’s exciting to see how much the series has taken off and how it’s reaching new audiences and sort of transforming the way people look at bagger motorcycles and what you can do with them. It’s been a lot of fun and we’re excited for another season.

Talk about the Battle of the Baggers, and the new levels of excitement it’s brought to V-twin racing in general.

Back when Rob first contacted me about the idea, I thought it was nuts, and I knew it was a big undertaking. The thing that he said was, ‘hey, look at it from a business standpoint for NAMZ.’ We’re going on our 24th year of business, and his thought was that these new Harley-Davidson models, the CANbus models as of 2014 and up, they require a lot of computers to make them work. People are trying to figure out how to get rid of all that weight, thin out the harness, etc. So, I put my mind into it and realized that it could be a good business opportunity and it could bring NAMZ products down another avenue. It can also help the rest of us in the industry to continue to grow the sport as much as we can, which is, of course, really advantageous for everyone.

Has this invigorated existing product, or has Battle of the Baggers helped shape new product development going forward?

It’s more the latter. We’ve already kind of pioneered a lot of CANbus stuff from the very beginning in 2011 when Harley went to it on the Softail model in 2012, the Dyna model and then in 2014 all models were CANbus. The technology’s different. It’s not as simple as it used to be. It’s not just about wires and splicing them and stuff like that. There’s a lot of technology involved. So, we’re at the forefront of that.

What Battle of the Baggers did was make me think out of the box in an unconventional way to circumvent a problem that we were all faced with, the race circuit especially made me think in a different way. We came up with an idea to rectify the CANbus issue to get rid of it altogether and that’s what we did. We came out with two different race harnesses and two different ECM modules that will run either twin cams without CANbus or the M8 platform without CANbus. That will probably be a good 10-12 bikes at the BRL in Pittsburgh on May 6 that will be running our harness.

What’s the hot ticket item from NAMZ for BRL?

Our fuel-injection race harnesses for sure will be the hot ticket. There are some twin cams that are going to be there and some M8s that are going to be there. We were generous with our race promotion, so there will be a lot of guys running NAMZ harnesses. Look for our logos on the bikes.
